Rules, routines, procedures, oh my! So much for our little angels to learn! At the beginning of every school year I introduce my Morning Routine to the students, modeling what it looks like, what it sounds like, and offer positive reinforcement for those who are, well, actually following directions! This year I decided to post my "poster" on the projector for that constant reminder of what the morning expectations are. I underlined the "key words" because this is a strategy I teach my second graders to help them pick out the key details while they read and I have an icon to help my struggling readers with a visual. I used alternating colors to make it easier on the eyes and my last "check" is my morning work or activity they should be working on, that changes daily. I also have my Morning Routine posted on the chalk board for when I have substitutes in my room.
Below are a few more pictures of how I make my students self-determined learners.
Students check in their hw using the codes. I have a hw checker that makes sure everyone is checked-in! |
Students also select their lunch choice. I use numbers so I can reuse the magnets. I also have a lunch count helper that fills out the lunch slips to work on math skills. |
